Hatty & Nick’s Melbourne Registry Elopement
Tell me about the beginning!
Our story began in London with a cheeky swipe on Bumble one Sunday afternoon—a classic love story. Nick is from Melbourne and I'm from Yorkshire, UK, but we were both living in West London at the time. Our first meeting was at Hammersmith tube station and we headed to a pub around the corner where sparks flew over a few pints of Guinness and a terrible game of pub trivia. We lost the trivia but won a bottle of wine in a bonus round! He asked me for a second date a couple of days later and the rest is history.
When and where did you get engaged?
In November 2023, Nick proposed to me during a cosy weekend stay in a dreamy tiny house in the Yarra Valley, which I'd been planning for ages. On the Saturday morning, he made me breakfast. The weather was beautiful so we ate it outside while we admired the view over the valley. He commented about how beautiful it was and, in classic Hatty fashion, I told him that I liked the view over the other side more. We started walking over to have a look and on the way there Nick got down on one knee. I didn't even let him finish asking me before I said yes! It turns out, Nick had bought the ring the previous November and had been waiting an entire year for the perfect moment!
What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day? Feel free to elaborate about your choices and venue.
It's sort of classic meets boho! Our outfits and ceremony are both quite classic choices but our reception will have a rustic, bohemian feel. It looks a bit like a barn on the beach!
We're both introverts and aren't that into the idea of a traditional wedding so we've cut out a lot of the usual elements that put us at the centre of attention like a big ceremony, a wedding party or a first dance! Our main hope is that it's a laid-back, fun day surrounded by our nearest and dearest.
What are you most looking forward to on the day?
The cocktail bar at our reception! But we're most looking forward to the honeymoons (yes, there will be more than one!)
Top Tips!
Don't get wrapped up in tradition or what you see other people doing on Instagram - plan the day that you want to have!
