Jaimee-Ann & Marlon’s Welcome to Thornbury Wedding

A fun wedding between high school sweethearts Jaimee-Ann and Marlon, started off at the ever classic Conservatory in the Fitzroy Gardens for the first look. It was a good move to have the family photos done early at the gardens in a beautiful setting so they could get straight to the party later in the day after the ceremony.

Marlon was able to secure a very special and exclusive entry to the less visited rooms of the Treasury building, a building I have visited many times, but not from the secret entrance out the back. We got to use some cool spaces that not many people would often see.

Next stop Welcome to Thornbury in Northcote for the nuptials and a mad sesh of video games in the arcade, the best way to spend your cocktail hour in my opinion!

Tell me about the beginning!

We met in high school, year 11 english class. We started dating on Auguat 22nd 2013, and nearly 12 years later we're finally making it official! We had our first date after school and walked to Sandringham beach to have fish & chips. We went to class together, skipped classes together - it was a classic high school relationship! But it blossomed quite quickly into something serious. Strangely, we both knew from so early on that we'd found our person.

Transitioning from high school to Uni, Uni to work, work to...more work - it hasn't been the easiest thing in the world, but we've always chosen to be together. We've seen each other acheive all of these incredible milestones, grow and change in awesome ways and really become our own people, while becoming closer each day. Being together is just fun.

When and where did you get engaged?

After such a long time being together, we'd talked at length about getting engaged, so Jaimee knew it was coming. Marlon really wanted to make it a surprise, so he enlisted the help of their mutual friends and staged something unpredictable! A Thursday night, after work - Jaimee walked into a beautifully clean and decorated house. Marlon got down on one knee and proposed.

After the hugs, kisses and tears, Marlon announced we're going out to dinner, and to get ready. Little did Jaimee know, the next knock at the door would be surprise number 2! All of our closest friends here to celebrate with champagne and join us for a fancy dinner! It was amazing. And surprising! Utter perfection.

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day? Feel free to elaborate about your choices and venue.

I don't really have a name for it - but I suppose you could call it a bit of a classy garden party, meets the whimsy of a low-key vegas..

It's really not that at all, but we do have an awesome band performing, Bones & Jones, who are an alternative indie rock band from Melbourne.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Jaimee: Really looking forward to entering the reception and seeing all of our guests and the reception all set up! Also the arcade - I can't wait to see that in action.

Marlon: Having a boogie with all of our closest people!

Top Tips!

If you're getting overwhelmed - just remember all you really need is a celebrant, rings and each other. Everything else is a bonus.
