Kim & Alan’s Family Gippsland Farm Wedding

Kim and Alan’s family farm wedding has been nearly three years in the making, with the most comprehensive DIYing I have ever seen. An amazing crew of family and friends chipped in to decorate not the ceremony space that had views for days towards Mount Baw Baw, Latrobe and Yarra Valleys, but the huge reception shed with decorated lounges, custom dance floor, chandelier, bar and dining tables.

The weather decided it was going to be bipolar with heavy rain and gales blowing, with an equal balance of sunshine and a cool cloudless evening. I definitely wasn’t prepared for the cold night in the middle of February.

This wedding I had my buddy Rick Liston step in to take over main photographer duties and I took a secondary roll while I recover from my brain surgery (I could not go as they booked so long ago and we communicated so much in the lead up). Rick smashed it out the park like the true pro he is and could concentrate on the behind the scenes moments and details.

Tell me about the beginning!

We met at a mutual friends 40th birthday in vic. Alan is from WA and at the time had a broken ankle which meant he wasn’t working and was able to come over for the party. I heard his laugh from across the room and thought I want that one! A month later I flew over to Perth for a weekend long first date. 6 months later he moved over and then not long after that we went into lockdown which was a great relationship tester!

When and where did you get engaged?

We got engaged at our home at the time on Christmas morning 2021. After Covid had ruined other proposal plans it was lovely and low key. My daughter was there with us and it was very sweet.

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day? Feel free to elaborate about your choices and venue.

Our wedding is turning more and more western the closer we get to the date. I feel it may end up looking like a fancy dress party ha ha. Which is totally me and funnily enough is in fashion at the moment. Lucky for me Alan is happy to be my cowboy! I guess its pretty fitting as we do live on a one thousand acre cattle farm.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Seeing Als face for the first time at the alter. That absolute pouring out of love and happiness from everyone. Having everyone we care about in one plus all for us!

Top Tips for planning your day!

Do not try and do everything yourself! Remembering there are many ways to do something or a thousand different ways something can look and not being concerned with getting any one thing “perfect”
